about

Phuture Shock Musik are very proud to present the full-length debut album 'Aprileft' by Detroit-based producer Malcolm MacLachlan, otherwise known as Appian.

Discovered by the Bristol label in 2012, who released the producer’s well received debut outing on wax - 'Endomusia' EP, Appian has remained prolific, having since accumulated further releases on his co-owned Slyfox and Corndogs imprints, along with notable contributions to fledgling labels; End Of Level Boss and Local Heat. While recent offering, ‘If Only’ - released on Phuture Shock’s sub-label; EXCURSIONS - saw the Motor City resident delve into avant-garde territory, which gained a premier broadcast on BBC Radio 1's Introducing show.

Taking us right up to date is ‘Aprileft’, an LP that encapsulates the full breadth of Appian’s slick, chameleonic production style across 14 tracks, and finds him drawing on an arsenal of styles ranging from deep house, techno and hip hop-centric beatdown, through to the vintage 80’s sounds of boogie and electro-funk, as well as the occasional foray into the realms of abstract electronica, much in a similar way as presented on ‘Endomusia’ , although this time in the shape of a cohesive end product that explores a higher echelon of the artists cosmic-tinged sound. With a growing momentum around this rising young talent, ‘Aprileft’ aims to elevate MacLachlan’s career to new heights, and highlight his reputation as being a key part of the new wave responsible for the future of electronic music conceived in the creative minefield that is, Detroit.
